About Us
We have our own in-office sterilization facility using high pressure steam autoclaves - the "gold-standard" of instrument sterilization - so you can rest assured that you safety is being prioritised. Using digital X-ray technology, ensures not only that radiation doses to you are kept to a minimum but image quality is optimal. WHAT IS MAXILLO FACIAL & ORAL SURGERY? Translated, from Latin it is: “Jaws Face & Mouth Surgery”… And that is exactly what it is. The face is widely regarded as the most complex anatomical region of the body. Maxillo-Facial Surgery is the only surgical speciality that focuses exclusively on the facial region and associated structures of the head and neck. This includes the underlying bony skeleton, dental structures, salivary glands, joints, nerves as well as the overlying soft tissue envelope. WHO MAY LEGALLY BE CALLED A SPECIALIST? In today's information age it is easy for patients to feel overwhelmed by the loose and inaccurate use of terminology. The ONLY healthcare professionals allowed to be called Specialists or who may claim to specialize in something are those registered in the Specialist Category with the HPCSA. Over and above their Undergraduate GP training, all Specialists MUST complete an additional 4 to 5 years of full time PostGraduate studying and training in a HPCSA accredited Specialist Registrar / Residency programme at an Academic Hospital. At the end of a gruelling programme of surgery and examinations, the Specialist Surgeon is awarded a Fellowship of the Colleges of Medicine of SA; designated with the prefix "FC" followed by the abbreviation of the discipline AND/OR a clinical masters, usually designated by the letters"MMED / MDENT". ONLY someone with one of these qualifications may infer that they have specialised. MAXILLO-FACIAL SURGEONS are Surgical Specialists who are extensively trained in diagnosing, treating diseases, abnormalities and conditions of the head, neck and facial regions. This includes repairing & reconstructing extensive facial injuries; fractures of the facial skeleton as well as treating diseases, cysts and tumours of the face, head and neck; severe infections; deformities; growth disturbances; disorders of the jaw joint and much more. Maxillo-Facial Surgeons, Plastic Surgeons, Neurosurgeons, ENT's and Ophthalmologists will often work hand in hand to treat complex cases where each field of expertise in the head and neck can be brought together to optimise the final outcome for the patient. Apart from the seemingly more "heroic" aspects of their work, Maxfacs are also specialists in oral surgery and surgery of the tooth bearing parts of the jaws. For this reason Maxillo-Facial Surgeons are often called "the surgical arm of dentistry". This includes a variety of elective and non-elective procedures. The vast majority of patients in a private practice setting are referred by their dental or medical GP to a Maxillo-Facial Surgeon for “difficult” impacted (embedded) wisdom teeth, complicated surgical extractions, TMD (jaw joint problems), jaw cysts, biopsies of face, jaw or mouth lesions, facial pain syndromes and headaches...and most popularly and notably for "Dental Rejuvenation” with IMPLANT THERAPY and the restoration of lost tooth-bearing bone and soft tissue by augmentation and grafting procedures. Here are some common everyday procedures you may already be familiar with:

More InformationAppointments: Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm Cancellations: In event of cancellation, please give 24hr prior notice so that other patients can be accomodated in the time allocated to you. ** It is the policy of the practice that appointments missed without prior notice will be billed at 80% of the consultation fee and handed over for debt recovery.**
RATES/FEES: There is no longer such a thing as a universal "medical aid rate" in the Republic of South Africa ever since the Competitions Commission ruled that a standard rate was tantamount to price fixing. Each medical scheme now chooses their own personal rate and reimburses at that rate. As you can imagine, there are as many rates as there are medical aids. It is regarded as unethical for practitioners to vary their fee for the same item of service from scheme to scheme. As a result our practice has chosen to charge the Discovery Health Premier B rate. Please be aware that you are personally responsible for settling all accounts directly with the practice.
